Lewiston was born on May 25, 2016 to Ronnie and Jessica Olstad a local family here in NW Calgary. After a healthy pregnancy and very normal first 6 weeks of life Lewiston went limp. After being brought into the hospital and several weeks of testing it was confirmed that he had Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 1. The doctors gave him less than a year to live. Lewiston passed away peacefully just 3 days shy of his 6 month birthday in the Rotary Flames Hospice House at Alberta Children’s Hospital. Although his life was short, it was full. His family has started a foundation in his honour and are focused on finding a cure so no other family has to endure loss like this. Lewiston taught us all to love deeper, squeeze tighter and dance a little longer.
