The Sinking of the Titanic

The sinking of the Titanic occurred on the night of April 14, 1912. At 11:40 p.m. the Titanic hit a giant iceberg, causing a severe blow to the right side. At first people weren't worried because they thought the Titanic was unsinkable, but then they realized that the Titanic was sinking at a very fast rate. They used rocket flares and radio messages to attract help, but the only ship that responded was the Carpathia, which was 58 miles away. Not only that, there weren't enough lifeboats for all the passengers, and the crew didn't fully fill the lifeboats. The Titanic later sank at 2:20 p.m. Then, about an hour and a half later, the Carpathia arrived and rescued the remaining 705 out of the 2223 passengers. The sinking of the Titanic changed sea travel because now there are enough lifeboats for all the passengers on board, the International Ice Patrol was established, and ship designs changed.
