Guide to Saint-Germain-des-près District

Foreign tourists, especially Americans, have a certain affliction for Paris that is unparallelled to any other global city. Perhaps it is because they find exactly what they expect to find – fine cuisine, historic charm, an artistic wonderland. Paris is so much more than that. For tourists visiting the beautiful neighbourhood of Saint-Germain-des-Près in the sixth arrondissement, we want to provide an alternative “list of … wonders” (White 47) that allows them to truly experience Paris rather than simply allowing them to explore what they expect to find and returning home claiming they know Paris. We want these tourists to know how this area thrived in the twentieth-century and how it has changed and yet stayed the same since then.
